Odisha government announces restoration of more than 3000 heritage and monument sites to preserve cultural legacy and boost tourism.

The initiative focuses on reviving ancient Kalinga architecture and strengthening Odisha’s cultural identity. Authorities plan to establish a Centre for Heritage Studies (CHS) to document and conserve historic monuments. The centre will conduct scientific research, ensuring accurate records of architectural features and historical significance.

IIT Madras experts will join the project through a memorandum of understanding. They will apply advanced scientific methods to audit structural safety and guide conservation strategies. This collaboration aims to make restoration more effective and sustainable.

Key monuments such as Mukteswar Temple, Konark Sun Temple, and Lingaraj Temple will receive special attention. Mukteswar Temple, built in the 10th century, represents the elegance of Kalinga architecture. Konark Sun Temple, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a global symbol of intricate craftsmanship. Lingaraj Temple remains a major religious and historical landmark in Bhubaneswar.

The restoration program will enhance Odisha’s tourism appeal and highlight its cultural pride on the global stage. By safeguarding heritage sites, the state strengthens its identity while creating opportunities for cultural education and economic growth.
