Odisha will host the 84th edition of the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar from November 6 to 10, marking its return as the venue after a ten-year gap.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the five-day event, which will welcome over 3,500 delegates including engineers, scientists, academicians, and policymakers from across India. The congress will spotlight innovation, technology, and policy in road construction and maintenance.
Bhubaneswar last hosted the IRC in 2015 during its 75th edition. This year marks the sixth time Odisha has played host to the prestigious national gathering. The event aims to foster dialogue and collaboration on the future of India’s road infrastructure, especially as the country accelerates efforts toward sustainable transport connectivity.
Throughout the congress, technical experts and researchers will address challenges in the road sector, present new findings, and showcase cutting-edge solutions. A technical exhibition opening on November 6 will display advanced materials, products, and engineering techniques used in modern road development.
Key meetings will run alongside the congress, including the 235th Council Meeting on November 7, the 85th Highway Research Board Meeting on November 8, the 84th Business Meeting on November 9, and the 236th Council Meeting on November 10. These sessions will explore investment strategies, policy frameworks, and long-term planning for India’s road network.
To celebrate Odisha’s cultural heritage, the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture will organize traditional music, dance, and art performances for the delegates.
The congress is expected to strengthen partnerships between government bodies, private enterprises, and academic institutions in shaping India’s transport future.
