The legal battle over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur intensified on Wednesday as his mother, Rani Kapur, challenged the validity of his alleged will before the Delhi High Court.
Represented by senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, the 80-year-old claimed she was denied access to critical documents related to her son’s assets. “Rs 10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine,” her counsel argued, adding that she had sent 15 emails requesting information but received no response.
Concerns Over Sona Comstar Assets
Rani Kapur’s counsel highlighted that significant assets of Sona Comstar — the automotive technology company once chaired by Sunjay Kapur — had been sold without transparency. “Shares worth Rs 500 crore were sold to a Singapore entity, but none of the documents were shared with me,” the lawyer told the court.
The High Court directed all parties to disclose the full list of assets as of June 12, the date of Sunjay Kapur’s death.
Row Over Alleged Forged Will
The dispute first surfaced when Karisma Kapoor’s children — Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapur — accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev, of “forging and fabricating” their father’s will. The siblings’ plea also named Rani Kapur and Shradha Suri Marwah, the purported executor of a will dated March 21, 2025.
Allegations of Foul Play in Death
Rani Kapur has gone further, alleging foul play in her son’s sudden death earlier this year. She has written to UK authorities seeking a thorough investigation to rule out natural causes, citing possible murder, conspiracy, and financial fraud.
Mandhira Kapur Smith, Sunjay’s sister, echoed her mother’s concerns, telling ANI:
“For us, it was my mum’s son, for me it was a brother. He was fit. Who is giving her answers? My mum asks me every day — how did this happen?”
The high-profile dispute now involves inheritance rights, allegations of forgery, and questions about the circumstances of Sunjay Kapur’s death, setting the stage for a prolonged legal battle.
