The Odisha government has announced plans to establish 100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state in the first phase of its infrastructure development initiative.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena detailed the distribution of these stations: 21 in Bhubaneswar, 38 at various regional transport offices (RTOs), 23 in truck terminals, and 18 at other strategic locations. The installation process has already commenced, following the selection of a private firm through a tendering process to undertake the project.
This initiative aligns with the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021, which aims to promote the rapid adoption of battery electric vehicles, targeting 20% of all vehicle registrations to be electric by the end of 2025.
The policy also offers subsidies to EV owners to encourage this transition.
As of now, Odisha has registered a total of 157,081 electric vehicles, comprising 132,692 battery-operated vehicles, 23,563 pure EVs, and 826 strong hybrid EVs.
