Addressing the 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition 2026 at Hotel Le Meridien in New Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Energy, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, outlined Odisha’s ambitious transition into India’s primary clean energy and green manufacturing engine.

Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the conference centred on the themes “Empowering India’s Energy Future: Secure, Smart & Sustainable” and “Transitioning with Energy Security – The New Global Order”. The inaugural session includes key dignitaries: Union Minister of MNRE Shri Pralhad Joshi, Bhutan Energy Minister HE Lyonpo Gem Tshering, and Sri Lankan Energy Minister Hon. Anura Karunathilake, alongside the official launch of the CII-EY report on India’s energy security.

Aligning with national goals of reaching 60% non-fossil capacity by 2035 and Net Zero by 2070, Odisha has scaled up its renewable energy targets to add nearly 11 GW of clean capacity by 2030. To support this rapid transition, the State has cleared major clean energy projects, building upon ₹67,000 Crore in investment proposals recently secured for over 6.7 GW spanning solar, wind, hydro, PSP and hybrid energy systems. Furthermore, Odisha is deploying to modernise its power grid with digital substations, smart grid tech, and AI-enabled asset management to ensure smooth integration of high-volume renewable power.

Odisha clean energy momentum

By leveraging its 575 km coastline, deep-water ports, and mineral resources, the State aims to provide round-the-clock renewable power and green hydrogen to decarbonise heavy industries like steel, aluminium, mining, and maritime transport, establishing Odisha as a premier Green Hydrogen hub in South-East Asia.

The State is simultaneously prioritising a just and inclusive transition through initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, decentralised solar projects, and green mobility to lower energy costs for households, generate local employment, and bolster MSMEs. Issuing an open invitation to global technology providers, manufacturers, and financial institutions, the Deputy Chief Minister assured investors of a stable policy framework and streamlined, friendly clearances.

Reaffirming the vision for Viksit Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047, the Dy CM Singh Deo emphasised that Odisha is ready to be a major state-level driver of India’s next phase of energy transition through secure, affordable, and sustainable growth. ACS, Energy Vishal Kumar Dev and other senior officers from energy also attended the meeting.
