Good news for residents and farmers across Odisha as meteorological experts confirm that the state will remain untouched by the deep depression brewing in the neighbouring region.
According to renowned weather expert Dr Surendranath Pasupalak, a low-pressure system currently forming over the Myanmar coast and the north Andaman Sea is expected to intensify further. However, it poses no threat to Odisha. The system is projected to track north-northwestwards along the Myanmar coast toward the northeast Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh, staying well away from the Odisha coastline.
“This weather system will not affect the entirety of the north Bay of Bengal and will remain far from our shores,” Dr Pasupalak noted. “As a result, there is no danger of storms or heavy rainfall in the state.”
Favourable Conditions for Farmers
Despite the lack of widespread rain, agriculture will not suffer. Experts highlight that existing soil moisture and current favourable environmental conditions will remain highly beneficial for farming. The retained moisture prevents the soil from drying out too quickly, allowing agricultural operations to proceed smoothly.

While the major weather system bypasses the state, local conditions show a generally dry and sunny trend. Over the next couple of days, isolated light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur in one or two places across various districts.

Coastal & Northern Districts: Districts like Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj are under a brief caution due to potential lightning, thunder, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 km/h.

Bhubaneswar & Surroundings: The capital city can expect partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of brief rain or thundershowers. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 32°C and 34°C, while night temperatures will stay comfortable between 24°C and 26°C. Similar stable weather patterns are anticipated across western and southern districts.
Advisory for Fishermen and Citizens
Although the mainland is safe, the Regional Meteorological Centre advises fishermen to exercise caution if venturing into deep waters near the Andaman Sea and the Myanmar coast due to rising wind speeds. Citizens are encouraged to stay updated through official meteorological bulletins as temperatures may see a slight rise in the coming week.
