Three minor school students, who had gone missing from the Chandrasekharpur area of the capital city, have been safely rescued from the Balikuda area in Jagatsinghpur district.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saravana Vivek M confirmed that the boys were found safe and sound at their relative’s uncle’s house.
The incident began on Sunday evening when two 9th-grade students—belonging to the Sitanath and Adarsh basti areas—and one 7th-grade student left home purportedly to attend their tuition classes. Instead of heading to tuition, they were reportedly spotted playing at a school playground. When the boys failed to return home by nightfall, panic-stricken family members launched a localised search before formally lodging a missing person complaint at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station on Monday morning.
Prompted by the complaint, the Chandrasekharpur Police and Commissionerate Police launched an immediate search operation, examining CCTV footage and scouring nearby localities. Through swift tracking, police teams traced the trio to Jagatsinghpur, where they were sheltered at a relative’s residence.
Police stated that all three boys—identified as Santosh Mohanty, Somnath Behera, and Bismay Swain—are in good health. Authorities have initiated a detailed probe to ascertain how the minors travelled from Bhubaneswar to Jagatsinghpur on their own, whether they left of their own accord, or if any other factors were involved.
While the families have expressed immense relief upon learning of their children’s safety, police noted that the minors will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) if required, following standard protocols. This swift breakthrough highlights the proactive measures and rapid response of the capital’s police force in handling missing children cases.
