The Odisha Government has intensified its focus on urban development as Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari conducted a high-level review of various development projects in Belpahar Municipality at Lok Seva Bhavan.
During the review, the Minister assessed the progress of projects initiated in the financial years 2024–25 and 2025–26, emphasizing timely execution and accountability in public infrastructure development.
Fresh Tenders for Stalled Projects
The Minister directed officials to cancel previous work orders for projects that have not yet commenced and issue fresh tenders. These projects will now be funded under the 2026–27 budget, ensuring their swift implementation.
He further instructed authorities to issue show-cause notices to contractors who failed to complete assigned work within the stipulated timelines. In cases of negligence, the Minister ordered termination of contracts to maintain efficiency and transparency.
Six-Month Deadline for Project Completion
A strict directive has been issued to complete all ongoing development works within six months. Key projects under review include:
- Market complex development
- Shelter homes for the urban homeless under government schemes
- Guest house construction
- Weekly market (Saturday market) infrastructure
- Pathways and urban connectivity improvements
Officials have been asked to prepare detailed work plans at the tender stage to ensure timely execution and avoid delays.
High-Level Committee Visit Planned
To address bottlenecks and monitor progress on the ground, a high-level committee from the Housing and Urban Development Department will soon visit Belpahar. The committee will review stalled projects, identify challenges, and ensure immediate resolution for smooth execution.
Focus on Drinking Water Amid Heatwave
Considering the ongoing heatwave conditions in Odisha, the Minister reviewed the drinking water supply system in Belpahar. Officials have been directed to ensure uninterrupted supply and deploy water tankers wherever necessary to support residents.
Strict Action on Fly Ash Dumping
Taking serious note of environmental concerns, the Minister instructed the district administration and police officials to take strict action against trucks dumping fly ash improperly in the Jharsuguda region. Immediate enforcement measures were ordered via direct communication with the Superintendent of Police and local authorities.
Efficient Use of Public Funds Emphasised
The review also covered projects funded through multiple sources, including:
- State Government funds
- Finance Commission grants
- Western Odisha Development Council funds
- District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds
The Minister stressed the 100% utilization of allocated funds and called for accelerated execution of proposed projects for the 2026–27 financial year.

The meeting witnessed participation from local representatives, municipal officials, and engineers. The discussions focused on resolving civic issues and ensuring inclusive, transparent, and sustainable development in Belpahar Municipality.
