Residents of Nabarangpur and parts of Kalahandi felt a mild earthquake on Wednesday evening around 7:45 pm.
The tremors lasted nearly three seconds and registered a magnitude of 4.1 on the Richter scale. People in Jharigaon, Chandahandi, and Dabugaon blocks reported shaking of houses and furniture falling inside rooms. Several residents rushed outdoors in fear as the ground vibrated.
Local sources confirmed that no major damage occurred. Minor disturbances included household items toppling and walls trembling briefly. Authorities monitored the situation and assured that the tremor did not cause structural harm.
The Nabarangpur earthquake created panic among villagers who had never experienced such sudden jolts. Families gathered outside their homes until the vibrations subsided. Officials emphasised that the tremor was mild and posed no serious threat.
Experts noted that the earthquake highlighted the need for awareness about seismic activity in the region. They advised residents to remain cautious and follow safety measures during unexpected tremors.
