The capital city of Odisha endured extreme heat and humidity on Friday, with temperatures soaring to 41°C by 2:30 PM and humidity reaching 38%.

The heat index pushed the “feels like” temperature to a staggering 50°C, making conditions unbearable for residents.

The scorching weather forced people indoors as streets remained deserted during peak afternoon hours. Residents struggled with dehydration and heat-related ailments while authorities urged citizens to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure between 12 PM and 4 PM.

The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for several districts, warning of severe heat and possible thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nawrangpur. A Yellow Warning was also issued for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and other districts, predicting thunderstorms with winds of 40–50 kmph.

Warm night conditions are expected in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Bolangir, while hot and humid weather will continue across coastal and western Odisha.
