The Odisha government adopted a tough stance on the Kotia border dispute, warning that any illegal entry into the region will face strict legal action.
Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announced that a roadmap for Kotia’s development is underway and emphasised that the area remains an inseparable part of Odisha.
Pujari said Andhra Pradesh continues to cross boundaries and influence Kotia residents. He compared Andhra’s approach to that of a “mausi” offering temporary help, while Odisha acts like a “mother” by ensuring long-term welfare. He confirmed that a full-time officer has been assigned responsibility for Kotia’s development and highlighted ongoing projects in tourism, education, and healthcare.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan echoed the sentiment, declaring, “Kotia was, is, and will remain part of Odisha.” He criticised Andhra officials for creating disputes without authority and stressed that Odisha will not yield to political interference.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond blamed past governments for neglecting Kotia, arguing that earlier failures allowed the dispute to escalate. He assured residents that the current government is delivering all necessary support to strengthen their trust in Odisha.
The ministers’ strong reactions followed recent clashes between Andhra officials and local administration in Kotia. Andhra Pradesh has allegedly attempted to influence villagers through welfare schemes and administrative outreach, while Odisha continues to push development projects, including an electricity substation to provide uninterrupted power to 30 villages.
