The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Saturday celebrated the 140th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress at Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, reaffirming its commitment to democratic values and constitutional principles.
The event began with OPCC President Bhakta Charan Das hoisting the party flag in the presence of senior leaders and party workers.
Constitution Under Threat, Says OPCC President
Addressing the gathering, Bhakta Charan Das said the Indian National Congress takes pride in the immense sacrifices and service rendered by its leaders and freedom fighters in securing India’s independence.
He stated that while several former Prime Ministers upheld the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, the country is currently witnessing a situation where constitutional values are under threat. He also alleged that there are deliberate efforts to erase Mahatma Gandhi’s name and legacy from public spaces.
“The Congress party will never tolerate any attempt to undermine the Constitution or the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress will continue to work relentlessly for the welfare of the people of this country,” Das said.
Call for Unity and Strengthening the Party
On the occasion, Congress leaders and workers pledged unity and called upon party members to work together to strengthen the organisation at all levels and protect democratic institutions.
