Central Range Police in Odisha have rolled out extensive security arrangements for the upcoming Bhasani processions and Durga Puja idol immersions.

Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Kataka, Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, has instructed Superintendents of Police in Puri, Khordha, Kataka, Kendrapada, Nayagada, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur to maintain high alertness throughout the immersion period.

Approximately 1,389 Durga Puja mandaps fall under the Central Range’s jurisdiction. Around 56 platoons of police force have been earmarked specifically for security and crowd management, in addition to routine deployments assessed by individual districts.

Key Security Measures Announced

A complete ban has been imposed on DJ systems during Bhasani processions. Organisers and participants may use only traditional instruments such as drums and dhol, subject to existing permissions. District police have been directed to enforce the restriction strictly, with legal action promised for violations.

Adequate personnel will be stationed along procession routes, at immersion points, in crowded localities and at other strategic spots. The focus is on orderly movement, preventing overcrowding and ensuring safe passage. Special attention will be given to vulnerable and communally sensitive areas, with heightened patrolling, area dominance and coordination with local intelligence units.

Dedicated teams will monitor publicly available social media content related to the processions and religious sentiments. Any suspected inflammatory posts, deliberate misinformation or attempts to spread rumours will be examined promptly, and legal action initiated where warranted. Citizens have been urged not to create, circulate or forward unverified or provocative messages and to report concerns via Dial 112.

Traffic arrangements will be tailored to local needs so that processions move smoothly while public inconvenience is minimised. Organisers must follow designated routes, timings and police instructions. At immersion ghats, police will coordinate with local authorities to manage crowds, prevent unsafe entry into water and enforce safety guidelines. Volunteers and puja committees are expected to cooperate fully.

Throughout the period, district police will stay in touch with puja committees, procession organisers and community representatives to reinforce mutual respect and communal harmony.

Appeal for Public Cooperation

Dr. Satyajit Naik has appealed to citizens to celebrate the Bhasani processions and idol immersions with discipline, restraint and mutual respect. He has asked people to follow police instructions, refrain from spreading rumours and help maintain a peaceful environment.

The Central Range of Odisha Police has reiterated its commitment to safe and orderly immersions and called on every citizen to contribute to a secure and harmonious atmosphere. In case of emergency, the public can dial 112.
