Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated 150 new 108 ambulances at Kalinga Stadium on December 23, 2025, marking the first phase of a major health initiative.

The Health Department has allocated Rs 111 crore to introduce 428 new ambulances across the state. The plan includes replacing 419 old vehicles and two accident-damaged ambulances with modern units. Additionally, five advanced life support (ALS) ambulances will serve airports and airstrips, while two ALS ambulances will strengthen cardiac care at Jharsuguda Hospital.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the government will gradually replace the entire Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (EMAS) fleet with new vehicles. He noted that the expansion aims to accelerate emergency healthcare delivery, ensuring faster patient transport. Odisha currently transports nearly 5,000 patients daily through the 108 ambulance service.

Officials highlighted that the new fleet includes advanced medical equipment to improve patient care during transit. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to modernising healthcare infrastructure and providing timely medical support to citizens.

The Chief Minister stated that the remaining ambulances will soon join service, further enhancing emergency response capacity. He reiterated that the investment in 428 ambulances demonstrates the state’s focus on strengthening healthcare accessibility for all.

The launch event witnessed the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Ekamra Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Health Department Commissioner and Secretary Ashwathi S, and National Health Mission Director Dr Brunda D, along with senior officials and staff.
