Odisha’s Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra today chaired a high-level review meeting at Unnati Bhawan to assess the progress of key ongoing and proposed developmental initiatives in Cuttack, emphasising the need for swift implementation to align with public expectations.

The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), spotlighted citizen-centric projects designed to bolster urban infrastructure, enhance civic facilities, and elevate the overall quality of life in the historic Silver City.

Commissioner, CMC, and Vice-Chairman, CDA, Kirandeep Kaur Sahota presented detailed updates on several priority schemes, including:

  • Development and beautification of the historic Gora Kabar cremation ground, with a strong focus on preserving its cultural and historical importance;
  • Rejuvenation of revenue water bodies, including pond restoration and optimal use of surrounding open spaces to promote a healthier urban ecosystem;
  • Modernisation and expansion of Gosala projects for improved cattle welfare in urban settings;
  • Upgradation of public amenities such as multi-purpose parks, extension of the fish market, and regular maintenance of all parks citywide;
  • Additional initiatives geared toward sustainable, inclusive, and heritage-sensitive urban growth.

Dr Mahapatra instructed CMC and CDA teams to launch immediate coordinated efforts for the effective rollout of these projects. He reaffirmed the Odisha Government’s dedication to realising the aspirations of Cuttack residents, stressing strict adherence to timelines, high-quality execution, and seamless collaboration across departments.

The session was also attended by Satrughna Kar, Additional Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, along with other senior officers from CMC and CDA.

Reiterating that the comprehensive transformation of Cuttack is a top government priority, the Minister highlighted the balanced approach of integrating heritage conservation with contemporary urban advancements to create a vibrant, livable city.
