Cuttack: The Odisha High Court on Monday issued notices to three MLAs to file their responses before the court regarding the election result case.
The MLAs in question are BJP Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, Jaleswar MLA Aswini Kumar Patra of the BJD and Chandbali MLA Byomakesh Ray of the BJD. Their election opponents have approached the High Court, alleging irregularities in the election process and seeking justice.
In the Jharsuguda assembly election, Tankadhar Tripathy of the BJP was elected with 91,105 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dipali Das of the BJD, who received 89,772 votes. Dipali has filed a case in the High Court contesting the election results.
Similarly, Aswini Patra secured his seat with 82,938 votes, narrowly defeating Brajamohan Pradhan of the BJP, who received 82,502 votes. Pradhan has also contested the election results in the High Court.
In the Chandbali assembly constituency of Bhadrak district, BJD’s Byomakesh Ray won with 83,063 votes, while his closest competitor, the BJP state president, received 81,147 votes.
Following the cases in the High Court concerning the assembly elections in Jharsuguda, Jaleswar and Chandbali, the court has issued notices to the challenged parties. The hearing process will commence upon receipt of these notices.
It is noteworthy that in the last election, many candidates who lost by narrow margins have taken their grievances to the High Court.
