Bhubaneswar: The political landscape in Odisha has heated up as the Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of conspiring to withhold salaries from Mission Shakti women workers.
The accusations come amid ongoing protests in Bhubaneswar by thousands of women demanding their overdue salaries.
Pramila Mallick, the Chief Whip of the Opposition, led the charge in the Assembly, calling for urgent discussions on the salary issues faced by the Mission Shakti workers. “Thousands of women are on the streets protesting. It is imperative that their issues are addressed immediately,” Mallick stated1.
Leader of the Opposition, Naveen Patnaik, further intensified the debate by alleging that the BJP government is deliberately conspiring against the women workers. “The BJP is trying to undermine the efforts and rights of these hardworking women,” Patnaik asserted1.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida dismissed the allegations, urging the women not to be misled by false information. “We are committed to resolving the issues faced by the Mission Shakti workers. There is no need for protests based on misinformation,” Parida said1.
The Assembly session was marked by heated exchanges and disruptions as BJD and Congress members demanded immediate action on the salary issue. The protests by Mission Shakti women have brought significant attention to the challenges faced by these workers, highlighting the need for prompt and effective solutions.
As the political tussle continues, the focus remains on ensuring that the Mission Shakti workers receive their due salaries and that their concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
