The opposition BJD has called on the BJP-led government in the state to disburse salaries to MBK, Bank Mitra, Krishi Mitra, and Prani Mitra employees.
During zero hour, Opposition Chief Whip Pramilla Mallik emphasised that MBK, Bank Mitra, Krishi Mitra, and Prani Mitra were recruited to support SHG members in enhancing women’s social, mental, and financial empowerment but they are struggling due to the BJP government’s failure to pay their salaries for the past six months, leaving them without work.
Mallik apprised that thousands of women from different organizations were staging a dharna near the state Assembly, demanding their salaries. She urged the Speaker to instruct the government to ensure salary payment.
Concerns were raised that the government’s neglect might indicate plans to phase out the Mission Shakti programme.
The issue of unpaid salaries to thousands of workers under the Mission Shakti programme was also highlighted by BJD members Byomakesh Ray, Goutam Buddha Das, and Dhruba Charan Sahoo, who urged the Speaker’s intervention.
Master Book Keepers (MBK), Bank Mitras, Krishi Mitras, and Prani Mitras, under the banner of All Odisha GPLF (Gram Panchayat Level Federation) Mission Shakti Workers Front, staged a demonstration at Lower PMG square in Bhubaneswar to protest against non-payment of salaries.
