Odisha Govt Extends EV Loans for Employees Till March ’26!

In a move to promote sustainable mobility and align with the state’s green initiatives, the Odisha Government has announced an extension of the interest-free Electric Vehicle (EV) Advance facility for its employees.

The scheme, originally set to expire on December 31, 2025, will now remain available until March 31, 2026, following the extension of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021.

The Finance Department, in a memorandum issued by Principal Secretary Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, highlighted that the decision comes in response to the Commerce & Transport Department’s notification dated December 31, 2025, which prolonged the EV Policy’s validity.

This extension ensures that state government employees can continue to access financial support for purchasing electric vehicles without interest burdens, encouraging a shift towards eco-friendly transportation.

Under the updated guidelines, employees must adhere to strict timelines to avail the advance:

  • Applications must be submitted by February 28, 2026.
  • Sanctions and fund releases will be processed up to March 10, 2026.

All other terms and conditions from previous guidelines—issued in April 2022, March 2023, July 2023, and October 2024—remain unchanged. These include eligibility criteria, advance amounts, and repayment structures designed to make EV adoption accessible for government staff.

The initiative, first introduced in 2022, aims to boost EV penetration in Odisha by providing up to a certain limit (as per earlier memos) as an interest-free loan, repayable in instalments. Officials believe this will not only reduce carbon emissions but also set an example for private sector adoption of green vehicles.

With the financial year 2025-26 drawing to a close, the government emphasised the importance of meeting these deadlines to avoid disruptions. Departments have been directed to facilitate smooth processing for eligible applicants.

This extension reflects Odisha’s commitment to environmental sustainability, as outlined in the broader EV Policy, which includes incentives for manufacturers, buyers, and infrastructure development.

As electric vehicles gain traction amid rising fuel costs and climate concerns, such employee-centric schemes could accelerate the state’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
