Odisha will not open any new sub-treasury offices, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan informed the Assembly today in a written reply.
He explained that pension disbursement, challan processing, and bill payments are now fully managed online through the e-voucher system, eliminating the need for additional sub-treasury offices.
During the question hour, BJD legislator Manorama Mohanty raised the issue, supported by BJP MLA Sanatan Bijuli and BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera. The Law Minister clarified that the state currently operates 169 treasuries and 128 sub-treasuries. However, 151 blocks do not have treasury offices. Despite this, the government believes the digital system ensures efficiency and accessibility without requiring new physical offices.
Officials emphasised that the e-voucher system has streamlined financial operations, reduced paperwork, and improved transparency. The move reflects the government’s push toward digital governance and modernization of financial management.
