Byas Lakua, a notorious criminal wanted across Odisha and Jharkhand, was apprehended following a police encounter at the Akhayasila Waterfall in Rourkela.
The incident occurred late last night when police personnel attempted to apprehend Lakua, who opened fire on them. In retaliation, the police engaged in controlled firing, injuring Lakua on his right knee.
Lakua, known for his involvement in multiple cases of theft, robbery, and murder, has been a menace across several police stations in both states. His modus operandi involved committing crimes in Odisha and then fleeing to Jharkhand. Following the encounter, he was admitted to the Rourkela Government Hospital for treatment.
In recent months, the Rourkela police have adopted a tough stance against criminals, leading to a spurt in encounters.
The crackdown on criminals continues as the police remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
