Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan to assess the Diarrhoea outbreak affecting six districts: Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar.
The meeting confirmed that the situation is now under control, with new cases significantly reduced and normalcy returning to affected areas.
The coordinated efforts of various government departments have led to a rapid decline in infections. Of the 3,892 reported cases, 3,543 patients have recovered, while 254 remain under treatment. No new fatalities have been reported, signalling effective containment measures.
Chief Minister Majhi emphasised the need for continued vigilance, directing officials to maintain robust healthcare services from primary health centres to medical colleges. He stressed the importance of water purification, public awareness campaigns, and stringent checks on street food vendors to prevent further outbreaks. “All potentially affected areas must remain prepared with preventive measures until Dusshera,” CM Majhi advised.
Special attention is being given to water sanitation, with ongoing purification of drinking water sources in schools and regular testing of tube wells in rural areas. The government has also mandated strict hygiene compliance in educational institutions to safeguard students.
Public awareness initiatives are in full swing, with Mission Shakti’s women self-help groups, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi staff actively spreading preventive messages across households. The state’s Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) programs are reinforcing these efforts to ensure communities remain informed.
The meeting saw participation from Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary of the Health Department Ashwathi S, and principal secretaries from the Departments of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Housing and Urban Development, Women and Child Development, and School and Mass Education.
