The diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha is now under control, according to State Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.

Following a video conference with the District Collectors of Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, and Bhadrak, Mahaling assured the public that government intervention has begun yielding results.

As per official sources, the primary cause of the outbreak has been traced to contaminated water supplies in some areas. “Wherever water samples failed quality tests, supply sources have been sealed,” Mahaling said. He added that while the number of patients is decreasing, surveillance and preventive measures remain active.

In Jajpur, 158 individuals are currently under medical care, while educational institutions remain closed until June 24 to minimise risk. Meanwhile, the Orissa High Court has directed Cuttack Municipal Corporation and the local health department to ensure the city remains infection-free, following a public interest litigation.

Authorities are also cracking down on the sale of stale food, imposing fines on vendors found violating hygiene standards. In Bhadrak, schools and colleges will remain closed for two days as a precautionary measure.

The government continues to spread awareness about hygiene and drinking water safety, emphasising that community cooperation is crucial to eradicate the threat fully.
