Suspended IAS officer and former Dharmagarh Sub-Collector Dhiman Chakma has approached the Orissa High Court seeking bail after the Vigilance Court rejected his earlier plea.
Currently under judicial custody, Chakma is facing serious graft allegations linked to a high-profile bribery case.
According to sources from the Odisha Vigilance Department, Chakma was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a businessman. The department later raided his official residence and reportedly seized Rs 47 lakh in unaccounted cash.
Chakma, a 2021-batch IAS officer, was posted in the tribal-majority Kalahandi district before his arrest. The case has sparked widespread discussion around bureaucratic accountability and Odisha’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.
With the High Court now seized of the matter, all eyes are on the judiciary’s stance in a case that has stirred public and administrative discourse across the state.
