In a powerful gesture of solidarity and simplicity, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has removed the pilot and escort vehicles that were part of his personal security convoy.
From today, he will travel with just a single car, whether heading to the Secretariat or attending any official duty.
The move directly responds to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal for citizens to cut unnecessary expenses, especially petrol consumption, amid the global oil crisis triggered by the tense situation in West Asia.
By voluntarily giving up the extra vehicles, Singh Deo has turned words into action, showing that even top leaders are ready to lead from the front.
Speaking about the decision, the Deputy Chief Minister urged every Odia to join the effort: reduce travel by personal cars, switch to public transport wherever possible, and embrace electric vehicles (EVs) in a big way. His message is clear — small individual sacrifices today can help the nation weather the fuel shortage tomorrow.
This is not just a security or administrative change; it is a strong symbolic statement of austerity, environmental responsibility, and national unity at a time when every litre of fuel counts.
