In response to the horrific fire incident at Shri Ramachandra Bhanja (SCB) Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on March 16, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed strong disciplinary measures.
The blaze, which engulfed parts of the Trauma Care ICU in the early hours, resulted in the tragic loss of several patients’ lives due to rapid spread and critical safety lapses.
Acting on the findings and recommendations from a fact-finding team headed by the Development Commissioner, the Chief Minister has ordered the suspension of four officials held accountable for dereliction of duty and failure in fire safety compliance.
The suspended officers are:
1. Prakash Kumar Jena, Deputy Fire Officer, Cuttack Circle
2. Sanjib Kumar Behera, Assistant Fire Officer, Cuttack Circle
3. Abhinav Prusti, Station Officer, SCB Medical College and Hospital
4. Ranjan Kumar Biswal, Assistant Executive Engineer, SCB Sub-Division under Cuttack GED
The suspensions aim to ensure accountability and prevent future lapses in critical infrastructure like hospitals.
Notably, Chief Minister Majhi had earlier constituted a high-level fact-finding team under the Development Commissioner to investigate the incident thoroughly.
