On the occasion of the 17th Raising Day of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi underscored the importance of smart policing and public safety, urging the police force to serve as a friend to the people.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event held at the 7th Battalion premises in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister lauded the Commissionerate Police for their exemplary performance in crime control, maintaining law and order, and managing traffic issues in the twin cities, which are home to over 2.2 million residents.
The Chief Minister highlighted the Commissionerate’s achievements over the past 11 months, noting their success in ensuring flawless security arrangements for numerous state, national, and international events hosted in Bhubaneswar. “Among all police commissionerates in India, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack stands out as an efficient, advanced, responsible, and sensitive force, delivering exceptional service to the public,” he remarked. He praised their dedication, which has earned Odisha recognition as a capable and exemplary organiser of high-profile events.
CM Majhi emphasised the pivotal role of the police in Odisha’s contribution to a developed India, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of enhancing counter-terrorism, coastal security, cybercrime prevention, and urban policing. “This is a significant challenge for our Commissionerate Police, and with the full support of our government, I am confident they will rise to the occasion,” he stated.
The Chief Minister urged the police to adopt a people-centric approach, treating themselves as allies of the public. “Our government is a people’s government. The police must address public grievances with sensitivity, ensuring justice for all sections of society,” he said. He stressed the importance of protecting lives and property, tackling challenges like cybercrime with advanced technical tools, and maintaining peace in slum areas to foster a safe environment. The state government, he added, has already established cyber police stations across all districts and plans to further strengthen these units.
On the occasion, CM Majhi inaugurated 112 newly constructed police quarters, including 84 F-type quarters at the Bhubaneswar Reserve Police Line and 28 D-type quarters in the Badagada police station area. Additionally, he felicitated outstanding police officers and personnel for their dedication and efficiency in the line of duty.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s focus on police modernisation, aligning with PM Modi’s vision of ‘Smart Policing.’ “We are taking steps to enhance human resources and infrastructure to build a smart police force that meets the demands of modern challenges,” he said.
Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the Commissionerate’s 17-year journey. “The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police has successfully tackled numerous challenges, earning its place as one of the finest in the country,” he said. He highlighted their achievements in crime resolution, investigation, and ensuring justice for offenders, citing a recent case where the police rescued an abducted child and reunited them with their mother, enhancing public trust in the force. Khurania called on every police personnel to work selflessly to create a safe and inspiring society.
The event, attended by Ekamra Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Cuttack Sadar MLA Prakash Sethi, Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Souvic Biswal, the Chief Minister’s advisor Prakash Mishra, senior and retired police officers, also featured cultural programs, adding vibrancy to the celebration. Police Commissioner Dr. Suresh Dev Datta Singh delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event.
