Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the Subhadra Shakti Mela in Rayagada on Monday, announcing a major financial boost for women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and unveiling multiple development projects.

The CM extended Rs 200 crore in interest-free loans to 4,217 SHGs, benefiting thousands of women engaged in livelihood activities. Additionally, Rs 14 crore revolving funds were distributed among 9,337 beneficiaries. Majhi emphasised that SHGs are not just beneficiaries but active partners in Odisha’s development journey, contributing to rural economic transformation through discipline, hard work, and entrepreneurship.

Majhi inaugurated 41 projects worth Rs 210 crore and laid the foundation stones for 67 projects worth Rs 340 crore. These initiatives cover roads, drinking water, irrigation, education, health infrastructure, rural development, and urban facilities. He assured that development will reach every section of society, including the poor, tribal communities, women, and youth.

Highlighting Rayagada’s potential, the CM announced that industrial projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore are underway in the district. Once operational, these projects are expected to generate employment for more than 30,000 local youth, with a mandate that 80% of jobs go to residents. He warned that companies failing to prioritise local hiring would not receive the necessary clearances.

Majhi reiterated that the government’s priority is not only to provide financial assistance but also to safeguard women’s dignity. He underlined opportunities in agriculture, handloom, garments, culture, and tourism, promising sustainable prosperity for Rayagada.
