Odisha Vigilance secured the conviction of Chita Ranjana Parida, former Junior Engineer (JE) of Odagaon Block, Nayagada district, in a bribery case.
Parida, who retired from service, was charge‑sheeted under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor to clear the final bill for a CC road project.
The Additional Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar sentenced him to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine. Vigilance officials confirmed that the tainted money had been recovered during the trap operation.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to stop Parida’s pension benefits. Officials noted that Parida had earlier been involved in another trap case in 2023, where he was caught accepting Rs 15,000 in connection with an EC case. That matter remains sub judice.
