Violence erupted in Noida on Monday as a three-day labour union protest over wage demands escalated into arson, clashes, and massive traffic disruption.
Large groups of factory workers blocked key roads, including the Delhi-Noida border, causing long traffic jams on the DND Flyway. Police deployed Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) units to control the situation and used mild force to disperse crowds.
The unrest intensified in Phase 2, particularly in Sectors 1 and 84. In Sectors 59 and 60, workers vandalised vehicles, smashed windows, and set motorcycles on fire. Protesters also threw stones at security personnel, attempting to pacify them.
Several factories in Sector 59 shut down as workers joined the demonstrations. District authorities had assured workers a day earlier that wage demands would be addressed, but tensions continued to rise.
Police officials said teams remain on the ground to engage with workers and prevent further violence. The protests triggered severe traffic chaos, with commuters stranded for hours as vehicles lined up for kilometres.
