A no-confidence motion has been initiated against Chameli Ojha, the Sarpanch of Tikhiri Gram Panchayat in Odisha’s Kendrapara district. The development comes after 21 out of 22 ward members reportedly extended support to the proposal, expressing dissatisfaction with her functioning.
The voting on the no-confidence motion is scheduled to take place on July 27. The result will determine whether Chameli Ojha continues as the elected Sarpanch or is removed from office.
The Sub-Collector has directed all ward members to remain present during the voting process, which will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Odisha Gram Panchayat Act. The official has also instructed the Mahakalapada Block Development Officer (BDO) to make the necessary arrangements for the proceedings.
Authorities have not officially disclosed the reasons behind the no-confidence motion. More clarity is expected once the voting process is completed.
Hunger Strike Continues in Bhubaneswar
The political development comes as Chameli Ojha continues her indefinite hunger strike at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar.
She has demanded action against the Mahakalapada BDO and the local Inspector-in-Charge (IIC), alleging that they misbehaved with her during an official visit. She has also sought a fair inquiry into her arrest, claiming there was a misuse of official authority.
The outcome of the July 27 vote is likely to determine the future leadership of the Tikhiri Gram Panchayat while the separate dispute involving the Sarpanch and local officials remains under public attention.
