The death toll from the catastrophic flash floods in Nepal has risen to 1,344, according to Nepal Police, as rescue teams continue to recover bodies from devastated towns and villages.
Police data shows 843 bodies have been retrieved so far, including 758 adults and 85 children, while an additional 501 amputated bodies were recovered from flood‑hit areas. Authorities said 1,030 bodies have been temporarily buried under strict regulations, including DNA collection for identification.
The floods, triggered by an ice‑rock avalanche near the Nepal‑Tibet border on August 26, unleashed torrents that swept through northern and central Nepal, leaving widespread destruction.
Joint rescue teams led by the Nepal Army have continued operations into the eleventh day, with the number of missing persons estimated at 4,898. Officials warn the toll may rise further as search efforts intensify.
