Naveen Patnaik, the veteran leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and former Chief Minister of Odisha, is slated to return to Bhubaneswar on Saturday, July 12, 2025, following a successful medical procedure in Mumbai.

Patnaik, a prominent figure in Odisha’s political landscape, had been undergoing treatment for cervical arthritis at the renowned Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. His return is anticipated to reinvigorate his party’s cadre, who are preparing a grand reception to welcome their leader back to the state capital.

On June 20, 2025, Patnaik travelled to Mumbai for a surgical procedure to address cervical arthritis, a condition that affects the spine and can cause significant discomfort. The operation was performed successfully, and hospital authorities confirmed that the 78-year-old leader has fully recovered and been discharged.

According to sources close to Patnaik, he is in good health and high spirits, ready to resume his political engagements in Odisha. Patnaik’s political secretary, Santrupt Mishra, shared details of the leader’s return, stating, “Shri Naveen Patnaik will arrive at Bhubaneswar airport in the afternoon on Saturday. We are thrilled to have our leader back in Odisha, and preparations are underway to ensure a warm welcome.”

The official announcement of Patnaik’s return was made during a press conference held at the BJD headquarters, Sankha Bhawan, in Bhubaneswar.

Senior Vice-President Debi Prasad Mishra, Vice-President Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, OBC Cell Convenor and MLA Arun Kumar Sahu, and Rajya Sabha MP Subhashish Khuntia jointly addressed the media, confirming that Patnaik would arrive on Saturday at 11:50 AM. “Shri Naveen Patnaik is in good health and high spirits. His return will be a moment of joy for the people of Odisha and the BJD family,” Mishra stated.

The BJD has planned a grand reception for its leader, with a celebratory procession from the airport to Naveen Niwas, Patnaik’s residence in Bhubaneswar. Thousands of party workers and supporters are expected to participate, showcasing their unwavering loyalty to the veteran leader.

As Patnaik prepares to return to his home turf, all eyes will be on how he navigates the evolving political landscape in Odisha. With his characteristic calm and strategic acumen, the former Chief Minister is likely to focus on rebuilding the BJD’s momentum while continuing to champion the causes of Odisha’s people.
