Odisha Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik today participated in the self-enumeration process of the Digital Census, marking a significant step in the state’s adoption of modern census practices.
Patnaik completed his self-enumeration, demonstrating the ease and accessibility of the digital system. His participation highlighted the importance of citizen involvement in ensuring accurate data collection. The Digital Census, which commenced across Odisha, allows individuals to record their household information directly through online platforms.
Officials explained that the digital process reduces paperwork, speeds up data compilation, and enhances accuracy. Citizens can log in, verify their identity, and enter details about family members, housing, and socio-economic conditions. The system also integrates with Aadhaar and other government databases to streamline verification.
Patnaik emphasised that the census is not just a statistical exercise but a foundation for policy-making. He said accurate data will help Odisha plan better for healthcare, education, infrastructure, and welfare schemes. His participation is expected to encourage more citizens to adopt the digital method.
The Digital Census represents a shift from traditional door-to-door surveys to technology-driven enumeration. Authorities believe this approach will save time, reduce costs, and minimise errors. The initiative also aligns with India’s broader push toward digital governance.
