New York: Naomi Osaka is back in Grand Slam action as she advanced to US Open second round after defeating Czech Marie Bouzkova with 6-4 6-1 win.
Osaka broke Bouzkova’s serve at 5-4 to win the opener, winning the first five games of the second despite struggling with her first serve.
Helped by a serve that reached 120 mph, Osaka saved all eight break points she faced and accumulated a 34-10 edge in total winners.
The world number three closed out the match with a forehand winner.
Osaka’s only previous meeting with Bouzkova came at the first round of the Australian Open in 2020, where she also won in straight sets.
After the win, Osaka shared an Olympic pin with a young fan.
