The National Archives of India (NAI) has acquired the private papers of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, one of India’s most iconic figures.
This priceless collection, donated by Dr. Kalam’s family, includes original correspondences, government-issued documents, tour reports, lecture notes, and photographs.
Dr. Kalam, widely known as the “Missile Man of India,” served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He is celebrated for his profound contributions to India’s missile and space programs, as well as his pivotal role in the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. His dedication to inspiring and mentoring the youth of India left an indelible mark on millions of young minds.
Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Dr. Kalam rose through sheer determination and hard work. His relentless pursuit of excellence earned him numerous accolades, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. Even after his presidency, he continued his mission of fostering education and innovation.
The National Archives has now ensured that Dr. Kalam’s legacy will remain accessible to researchers, educators, and the public for generations to come, further inspiring the nation.
