Umerkote police rescued three tribal women who were allegedly being lured to Tamil Nadu without informing their families.
The incident has sparked concern over suspected human trafficking in the region.
According to reports, the women from Kurshi village in Umerkote block were promised lucrative jobs and high salaries by middlemen. They left home and stayed in Borigaon under Dabugaon block before the police traced them.
Family members lodged a complaint at the Umerkote police station after failing to locate them. Acting swiftly, police tracked the women’s mobile phones and launched a raid. Officers rescued all three safely, though the broker involved managed to escape.
Police said the rescued women are being questioned to determine whether a larger trafficking racket is operating behind the incident. Investigators suspect the women were being taken to Tripura under the guise of employment opportunities.
Authorities confirmed that search operations are underway to nab the absconding broker.
