The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially declared the early arrival of the southwest monsoon over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, marking a significant advancement in seasonal weather patterns.
Meteorological observations confirmed persistent rainfall activity, strengthening westerly winds, and a notable decrease in Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR), all indicating active monsoon conditions.
Traditionally, the monsoon reaches the Andaman Sea around May 18-19; however, this year, it has arrived several days ahead of schedule. With forecasts suggesting its progression to Kerala by May 27, this early onset could have crucial implications for agriculture, water reserves, and overall weather patterns across India.
The IMD expects continued favourable conditions for monsoon advancement over the south Arabian Sea, Maldives, and Comorin area, potentially setting the stage for an above-normal rainfall season. This arrival comes as a relief from rising temperatures and strengthens hopes for a strong agricultural yield in the coming months.
