The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to commence on July 21 and will continue until August 12, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced Wednesday.
Both Houses—Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha—will reconvene at 11 a.m. after a break of over three months.
The session dates were recommended by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Rijiju, speaking to reporters, confirmed the decision, citing discussions within the government on upcoming legislative matters.
This announcement comes amid calls from Opposition leaders for a special session to debate Operation Sindoor, India’s recent military exercise targeting terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Responding to inquiries, Rijiju stated that “all issues can be discussed during the Monsoon Session.”
The Budget Session of Parliament began on January 31 and concluded on April 4, with both Houses adjourned sine die. The upcoming session is expected to witness debates on key policy matters, pending legislation, and political developments leading into the next electoral cycle.
