Police in the Kutra block of Sundargarh district recovered the body of a man who had been missing for four months from the Barapaen forest on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as 28‑year‑old Salman Surin of Rangamati village under Nuagaon Panchayat. Family members said Salman suffered from a mental disorder and often wandered away from home. He went missing four months ago and never returned despite extensive searches by relatives.
Forest staff from Badagaon spotted the body while on duty inside Barapaen forest and immediately informed Kutra police. A joint team of forest officials and police recovered the remains and sent them to Rajgangpur hospital for a post‑mortem.
Kutra police registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances of Salman’s death. Officers said further details will emerge after the medical examination.
