Odisha has assigned ministers to take responsibility for mandis in each district during the ongoing paddy procurement season.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed the Assembly that this step aims to ensure better coordination and monitoring of procurement activities.
According to the minister, each minister will visit different mandis in their respective districts to review the situation and address challenges faced by farmers. To strengthen coordination, the government has formed a ministerial-level committee that will oversee procurement operations across the state.
In addition, district collectors will appoint officers for every mandi. These officers will monitor procurement activities closely and submit regular reports to the collectors. The system is designed to streamline operations, prevent irregularities, and ensure transparency in the procurement process.
Minister Patra emphasised that the government remains committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests.
