Artificial intelligence is poised to transition from a responsive tool into a vast workforce of autonomous agents capable of executing tasks and interacting with businesses on behalf of individuals, internationally recognised futurist Mike Walsh said at the NDTV World Summit 2026.
Highlighting that AI agents could soon outnumber the human population, Walsh identified India as one of the most vital markets driving this global transformation.
He explained that emerging systems will enable autonomous AI to handle low-value transactions without needing constant user approval, laying the framework for an ecosystem of digital labour.
Walsh emphasised that this shift offers unique opportunities for India’s youth beyond conventional education and career pathways. He noted that young Indians might hire their first digital employee even before landing their first job, using swarms of AI agents to draft business plans, build prototypes, and connect with clients.
Addressing public discourse around technology, Walsh urged leaders to move past a mindset of scarcity regarding energy, water, and job displacement. Instead, he advocated viewing the transition through a lens of abundance, where intelligence, expertise, and knowledge become universally accessible.
