A devastating wall collapse in Mahadev Sarai village under Basta police station limits claimed the lives of a couple and left their 12-year-old daughter critically injured in the early hours of Monday.
According to local reports, Pitha Murmu, his wife Lakhmi Murmu, and their daughter were asleep when the wall of their house suddenly gave way. Neighbors rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the family from the debris, immediately transporting them to Basta Hospital. Tragically, doctors declared the couple dead on arrival, while their daughter remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about the structural safety of homes in rural areas, especially during the monsoon season. Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the collapse, but preliminary speculation points to weakened infrastructure due to prolonged rains.
Local officials have visited the site and assured support to the grieving family. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for housing safety audits and disaster preparedness in vulnerable regions.
