Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to fast-track teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi into the senior national squad for the upcoming England tour.
The recommendation follows Sooryavanshi’s electrifying 52-run knock off just 17 balls against the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. His fearless batting display drew widespread attention and overshadowed his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Vaughan Calls for Early Exposure
Speaking after the match, Vaughan suggested that even if Suryavanshi does not immediately make the playing XI, he should be included in India’s squad for the England white-ball tour to gain exposure to international cricket.
He emphasized that being part of the team environment would accelerate the young batter’s development and help him adapt to the demands of top-level cricket.
A Rising Star in Indian Cricket
Suryavanshi’s rapid rise over the past year has been remarkable. The left-handed batter has delivered consistent performances across formats, including standout centuries in Under-19 tournaments held in England, Australia, and South Africa.
He also played a match-winning innings in the Under-19 World Cup final, cementing his reputation as one of India’s most promising young talents.
Dominance in IPL 2026
In the recent match, Sooryavanshi’s aggressive approach stood in contrast to Jaiswal’s composed innings. While Suryavanshi hammered 52 off 17 balls, Jaiswal contributed a steady unbeaten 38 off 36 deliveries, guiding the chase effectively.
Vaughan noted the contrast in styles, highlighting Sooryavanshi’s fearless shot-making and ability to dominate bowlers from the outset.
Strong Partnership, Different Approaches
Despite differing approaches, the duo shared a crucial 75-run opening stand that helped their team secure a comfortable victory. Suryavanshi later revealed that it was Jaiswal who encouraged him to continue attacking, recognizing his strong timing during the innings.
Looking Ahead
With the England tour approaching, discussions around Suryavanshi’s inclusion are likely to intensify. His recent performances have not only strengthened his case but also sparked excitement about the future of Indian cricket.
