Odisha braces for an intense heatwave as temperatures are expected to soar to 45°C over the next five days, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
Regional Meteorological Centre Director Manorama Mohanty said coastal and interior parts of the state will continue to experience extreme heat and humidity until April 17. She warned that relief from the scorching conditions is unlikely in the coming days.
The heatwave has already gripped several districts, with daytime temperatures rising steadily. Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and western Odisha towns such as Sambalpur and Jharsuguda recorded severe heat conditions. Meteorologists said the dry northwesterly winds and clear skies are intensifying the heat across the region.
Health officials advised residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours and stay hydrated. Authorities also urged people to take precautions against heatstroke and dehydration.
The weather department said the mercury will remain high across Odisha, with no significant rainfall expected until mid-April. The prolonged heatwave has disrupted daily life, affecting outdoor workers and commuters.
