Asha Bhosle, the legendary voice of Indian cinema, died at 92, leaving behind a legacy that transformed Bollywood music forever. Her son confirmed the news on Sunday.
She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday with serious cardiac and respiratory problems. Doctors shifted her to the ICU as her condition worsened. Family members stayed close through the night, but she passed away quietly on Sunday afternoon. The family announced that her last rites will be performed tomorrow.
Born in 1933, Asha began singing at nine in 1943, following in the footsteps of her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar. Through the 1950s, she faced comparisons as “Lata’s little sister,” yet she carved her own identity with unmatched energy and versatility. As younger composers entered the industry, they trusted Asha’s bold voice, and she rewarded them with timeless hits.
