In response to rising cases of diarrhoea, the Odisha Department of Health and Family Welfare has deployed specialised medical teams across the districts of Cuttack, Jajpur, and Bhadrak.
Under the directive of Principal Secretary Shalini Pandit, the independent expert teams have initiated field inspections in affected blocks. The teams, composed of senior doctors and public health specialists, are assessing water sources, medical preparedness, and sanitation practices in vulnerable areas.
In Cuttack, Dr. B. Dwivedi and Dr. S. Mohanty, along with Additional Director Dr. Premlata Baral, are leading the effort. Jajpur is being monitored by Joint Director Dr. Nilakantha Mishra and experts from the Food Safety Authority, while Bhadrak’s inspection is headed by Dr. P. Ghosh and Dr. J. Choudhury, alongside Joint Director Dr. Subhashish Mohanty.
The investigations aim to pinpoint sources of contamination, evaluate water purification systems, and ensure prompt medical treatment of affected individuals. Public awareness campaigns on safe drinking water and hygiene are being intensified.
Teams are collecting accurate patient data, assessing medical response effectiveness, and sharing recommendations with district authorities. Critical hotspots are being targeted for follow-up actions.
This proactive field deployment reflects the government’s commitment to tackling public health threats through swift, coordinated responses.
