M C Mary Kom, the chairperson of the Indian Olympic Association’s Athletes Commission and a boxing legend, has denied reports of her resignation.
She stated that she was misunderstood and will complete her tenure, which ends in 2026. She had expressed displeasure over her accommodation at an “inferior hotel” during the National Games closing ceremony in Haldwani, which was misconstrued as a resignation.
Mary Kom clarified that she mentioned considering resignation only if such treatment happened again and emphasized that she did not submit any resignation. She was elected to the panel in 2022 alongside vice-chairperson A Sharath Kamal and other prominent athletes.
Mary Kom stressed that her expression of dissatisfaction should not be misinterpreted and that she has a good relationship with IOA President P T Usha, with whom she plans to communicate about the matter. She has a strong history in the administrative side of sports and remains committed to her role.
