The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted relief for Odisha as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around May 28 and 29.
Officials said favourable atmospheric conditions, including the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phase and supporting weather systems, will trigger the development. The system is expected to move northwest, bringing widespread rainfall and thundershowers across several districts.
IMD highlighted that the probability of cyclogenesis over the North Indian Ocean stands at 91 to 97 per cent during the next two weeks. This strong likelihood points toward significant weather activity in the region.
The anticipated low-pressure activity will increase cloud cover, lower temperatures, and reduce the discomfort caused by the ongoing heatwave. Odisha residents, who have endured scorching heat and high humidity, may finally see relief as conditions improve.
Meteorologists explained that the combination of atmospheric factors will support the formation of the system. Once established, the low-pressure area will influence weather patterns across eastern India.
The forecast signals a turning point in Odisha’s weather. With rainfall and thundershowers expected, the state can anticipate a break from the relentless summer heat.
