Bargarh: In a tragic incident on Wednesday, three people lost their lives and three others sustained severe injuries after being struck by lightning in Dewandihi village, Padmapur area of Bargarh district. They were seeking shelter from the rain under a banyan tree when the lightning struck.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when a thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain hit the Padmapur area. Usually, villagers would sit under the village’s banyan tree, but today following a sudden thunderstorm and rain many villagers sought shelter under the tree.
Three people died on the spot, while three others sustained serious injuries and were immediately admitted to the Padmapur Government Hospital. All the victims are from Dewandihi village.
The deceased have been identified as Dhanurjay Nayak (45), Sukdev Banchhor (58), and Niroj Kumbhar (25). As per reports, three other people suffered minor injuries.
Local MLA Barsha Singh Bariha visited the Padmapur hospital and met with the families of the deceased and injured. She was present during the treatment of the injured.
CM Mohan Majhi has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families. CM Majhi also announced ex-gratia assistance of Rs 4 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.
Wishing a speedy recovery for the seriously injured, the CM directed the district administration to arrange completely free and proper medical treatment for them.
